Your Arlington Last Updated: 14 December 2020 Written by Scott Samenfeld Variety of efforts supported UPDATED, Nov. 13: The Grants Committee of the Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture (Arlington Cultural Council) is extending the deadline for submitting applications for the 2021 grant cycle to Monday, Dec. 14. Delays in the Massachusetts legislative budget cycle because of Covid-19, the state Cultural Council has extended the deadline for the 2021 grant cycle. The local council will also be pushing out its project presentation sessions until early January. An arts-and-culture grant can be used for many purposes in Arlington, such as: Using music or art to bring groups together; Creating an experiential program that brings interpretive science or history to life for a diverse audience; Completing a series of paintings, a musical composition, or theatrical performance; Creating or enhancing an arts program addressing social or environmental justice, or cultural inclusion; or Actively seeking to address or expose systemic racism in Arlington and our society at large The grants committee of the Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture offers funds annually, which typically range from $150 to $1,000 to fund arts, humanities and interpretive science programs benefiting the community of Arlington. The committee receives its funding from the state Cultural Council. We cannot accept late applications. Grant-writing workshop The Grants Committee hosted a virtual grant-writing workshop on Oct. 7. To see the presentation, click here >> Grant presentation sessions Once the grant period has closed Dec. 14, the grants committee will be scheduling virtual proposal presentation sessions. These sessions allow us to ensure we have the most complete understanding of your proposal. These sessions will most likely occur in early January; all applicants will be notified of these sessions. The ACAC Grants Committee is part of a network of local cultural councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The program is the largest grass-roots cultural-funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and humanities every year. The state Legislature provides an annual appropriation to the state agency, which then allocates funds to each community. The committee is always looking for new members.
