Description

Your Arlington Last Updated: 20 December 2020 Written by Allison Eck The Cambridge Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is a free holiday pops live-stream event—scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20. To bring the public a quality, joyful performance without risking health or safety, the CSO has produced an event event with recorded video that will feature a mini version of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker. Check out Facebook here >> The event will showcase professional ballet dancers in addition to our CSO musicians and will tell the full story of The Nutcracker. CSO received support from the City of Cambridge for this project. While most ballet companies have shut down Nutcracker productions entirely this year, the CSO is, to the best of its knowledge, the only arts organization that has made it possible for children and their families to enjoy this season an original local performance, with new choreography from City Ballet of Boston's Gianni Gino Di Marco. The tubist and audio engineer for this project, Bill Whitney, is also the music director for the Urban Nutcracker in non-Covid times; in addition, the production team we are working with for the live stream has been credited on several Grammy-winning albums. This hourlong event will include: Choruses from UMass Lowell (Jonathan Richter, director) performing "Children Will Listen" from Into the Woods; A visit from Santa; and A celebration of Hanukkah.
