Description

ARLINGTON, MA — Six candidates so far have taken out papers for the Town Election April 10. That includes incumbent School Committee members Jane Morgan and Jeffrey Thielman, who pulled papers on Dec. 17 and 18, respectively. Incumbent Select Board member John Hurd is running for re-election, having taken out papers Dec. 16. School Committee member Jennifer Susse is also running for Select Board, as well as Town Meeting member Eric Helmuth. Guillermo Hamlin took out papers for the Board of Assessors race. Here are the town-wide offices on the ballot in April: Select Board - 2 seats for 3-year termsSchool Committee - 2 seats for 3-year termsBoard of Assessors - 1 seat for 3-year termHousing Authority - 1 seat for 5-year term (see note)Housing Authority: An additional one-year remainder term is presently occupied by a vacancy appointment. The Department of Housing and Community Development for the Commonwealth has advised that this seat be kept in 'holdover' status due to pending legislation and/or regulations to either elect or appoint an AHA tenant to said seat. The law will likely be signed by the end of December. Understandably, neither DHCD, the Town, nor the Elections Division wishes to have seats on the ballot that must be vacated for a tenant appointment. Accordingly, please continue to check this page for a status update or call to the Office of the Town Clerk before the deadline to request nomination papers.
