In Arlington, November closed with a wild, windy and wonderful rain storm. I could hear the wind rushing through the trees, even though there were no leaves to rustle. I could see their limbs bending too and fro, as they moved where the wind took them. Returning again and again to the center.
Resilience. That is what we have needed since mid-March.
That and grace and gratitude, have been our blessings, as we discussed earlier this month as a small group of us plugged into sharing moments when those qualities had peeped through the the cloud that is this pandemic.
For eons, at this time of year, when the days grow shorter and the nights longer, many of us have celebrated the light in both religious and secular ways. One of my most favorite celebrations is the Winter Solstice, for the very next day, the balance tips and we are headed into the light once again.
Won't you join me and Arlington poet Jessie Brown to light the flame in a Solstice poetry workshop on Monday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m.?
