JOLIET, IL — Joliet police arrested two young men this weekend following an armed robbery outside the Sidelines Sports Bar in the 2000 block of West Jefferson Street. Police said that three men were robbed at gunpoint around 2:40 a.m. Saturday. The Joliet police investigation led to the arrests of 29-year-old Justin Cox and Cesar Chavez Jr, 23. Chavez was charged with armed robbery and obstructing a peace officer. Cox faces one count of armed robbery. Joliet police said Cox and Chavez approached the Sidelines Sports Bar victims, displaying a gun and announcing a robbery. The victims handed over their cell phones, plus cash, and the robbers drove off. A description of the suspects and their getaway vehicle was broadcast to other patrol officers throughout the city, police spokesman Dwayne English announced. Bail for Justin Cox was set at $400,000. Mugshot via Will County Jail Several minutes later, officers on the east side spotted the car near Collins Street and Meeker Avenue on Joliet's northeast side. Officers arrested Cox without any problems, but the other suspect ran off, police said. Proceeds from the robbery were recovered inside the car, police said. Later, on Saturday, detectives spotted Chavez inside a car on South Weber Road in Romeoville, police said. Chavez struggled with the officers, and they deployed a taser to subdue Chavez to take him into custody, police reports show. Bail for Cox was set at $400,000. He lives in the 2400 block of Grape Street. Cox was booked into the county jail around 9 a.m. Saturday. As for Chavez, he now has a total bail of $825,000. Chavez lives in the 0 to 100 block of North Hickory Street. Chavez was booked into the county jail around 11:15 p.m. Saturday. Chavez had a warrant out for his arrest by the Joliet police for three felony counts of aggravated battery at a public place, from an incident on Nov. 18.
