Andover Fire Wins Federal Funding For Coronavirus Response

ANDOVER, MA — Andover Fire Rescue received $22,000 in federal grant funding for responding to the coronavirus, the state announced Tuesday. The department received the grant for disinfectant and disinfecting equipment. The state distributed nearly $10 million from the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program in federal grants to over 100 local and state public safety agencies. "These awards to municipal departments and state agencies across the Commonwealth demonstrate our commitment to providing our police officers, firefighters, and other public safety personnel with the necessary tools to effectively serve their communities while continuing to fight a pandemic," Gov. Charlie Baker said in a statement. The largest grants available were $50,000. Sixty-five fire departments and 44 police departments won funding under this program. "This grant from the State is especially helpful in funding the extra precautions the department has taken during the COVID-19 pandemic," Chief Michael Mansfield said in a statement. "With this equipment, we can better protect the health and safety of our department members and community." The equipment is expected to arrive by early next year.
