The approximately $165,000 grant program, funded using the town's free cash, is part of an initiative to assist small businesses in Acton impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds will help these businesses cover rent and other fixed costs. Grants of up to $4,000 each will be provided to 43 local businesses. The program targeted businesses which met the following criteria: Less than 35 employees. Less than $1.5 million in annual revenue.Have a physical, commercial presence in Acton.Demonstrated a loss of 50% or more in revenue since the COVID-19 closures in March. "This is a true demonstration how deeply our community cares for our small businesses, and is a clear indication of how much we collectively care about their well-being," Board of Selectmen Chair Jon Benson said. "Small businesses are part of the fabric of our community, and many of them give back in so many ways, like cash-in-kind contributions for local activities and events, so we're proud to step up and support them in their hour of need."
