Explore the possibilities of working with acrylic paints. This class will cover color theory, composition, layering and acrylic properties. Dates: Wednesdays, March 2, 9, 16 & 23 Time: 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Frequency: 4 sessions Cost: $155 non-members; $135 members Masks required Class maximum: 8 Explore the possibilities of working with acrylic paints. This class will cover color theory, composition, layering and working with the unique properties of acrylics. It is appropriate for students with no painting experience or those with some experience looking for ideas, structure or to improve their skills. Each painting will provide a different instructional focus. Supply list: Pencils & erasers 3 (primed) wood panels or stretched canvases, approximately 11”X14” (12X12 OK, too) Sketchbook for note-taking & ideas Acrylic paints – at least the primary colors (red-yellow-blue) plus white; black not necessary; email me if you need advice regarding specific colors Brushes—1/2” flat or filbert recommended. 1 smaller, plus one smaller round (#4 or #6) A cheap 1” chipping/utility brush (suggested vendors: Harbor Freight or Home Depot) Palette—Can be a large plastic lid or styrofoam tray you would otherwise recycle Xacto knife An old toothbrush Masking tape Apron Optional: stencils, palette knives, a scraper or expired plastic gift card, small spray bottle, and any other favorite supplies you may have About the Artist: I’m originally from the south side of Chicago and earned a BFA and MA in Art Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Certificate in Commercial Design from the University of California, San Diego. I have been a licensed art educator in Illinois, California and Oregon. In addition to classes for adults and children at VGA, I have taught beginning through advanced high school art classes in the Forest Grove and Beaverton School Districts, and art instruction methods to prospective elementary educators at the University of Portland.
