Boston Declares Snow Emergency, Schools To Hold Classes Online

BOSTON, MA — Boston has declared a snow emergency and parking ban. Schools will pivot to online only for the day. The first snow emergency of this season comes as the National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning and predicted up to a foot of snow will hit the area by Thursday morning. The parking ban is in effect starting at 6 p.m., Wednesday when vehicles parked on a posted snow emergency artery will start to be towed, according to Mayor Marty Walsh. Residents with a valid resident parking permit sticker can park in a metered or two-hour parking space in their neighborhood without having to adhere to the time limit or pay a meter fee, if it's not on an emergency artery. Schools: All Boston Public School buildings will be closed Thursday and all students, including students who were scheduled to report in-person, will attend classes online with an early dismissal from remote learning. Trash and recycling: Trash and recycling pick up will be delayed in some neighborhoods. Check here if it will impact yours. For Friday, truck crews have a tough time reaching trash barrels and recycling carts behind snow banks, so the city is asking residents to clear an area at the curb, or put containers next to or in front of snow banks.
