Description

In this intro to soapmaking, Hannah Moore of Moore Soaps will explain the basic chemistry and materials used to make soap from scratch. Some people say millennials are killing the soap bar, but not in this studio: we love lathering up with a handmade bar of soap and avoiding those plastic bottles whose pumps aren't even recyclable! In this introduction to soapmaking, Hannah Moore of Moore Soaps will explain the basic chemistry and materials used to make soap from scratch, as well as safety precautions. Under her guidance, you will create cold process soap batter starting with raw ingredients and an empty container, and then you'll customize it with scents and botanical elements like poppy seeds for exfoliation. You will also have the opportunity to decorate your own soap packaging, using CRAFT's supplies. In this workshop, you will learn the cold process soapmaking technique, as well as an overview of other soap methods, learn and implement safety practices for handling soap ingredients and batter, create packaging for your soap, especially fun if you will give your handmade soap as gifts, receive classroom instruction in an intimate setting, with one on one support as needed, andleave with your own 1.5 pounds of soap, made by you, from scratch! Please note that homemade soap needs about 6 weeks to cure, so this soap will be best after 1.5 months of rest.Full length pants and close-toed shoes required. Reservations required. No kids. Workshops are refundable up to 72 hours in advance. 1 spot is for 1 person unless otherwise noted. Email hello [at] madeatcraft.com with questions. COVID note: This class is limited, at all times, to six students. Masks are required. Refunds will be given, even within 72 hours, with proof of covid or exposure. CRAFT is like an all-you-can-make buffet of art supplies for grown-ups. The idea is to be everyone's craft room, so you can walk in any time during our open hours, and craft using our supplies for $10 per hour.
