NEW ROCHELLE, NY — City officials are asking New Rochelle residents to avoid parking on the street ahead of tonight's forecasted snowstorm.
To make things a little easier for car owners, the city will temporarily waive fees at two municipal parking garages.
"Before the storm, if possible, please park cars off-street to make room for plows," New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson said in an alert issued Friday morning. "As an option, parking will be free at New Roc City and at the New Rochelle Transit Center, beginning at 5 p.m. today and continuing through Sunday at midnight."

The mayor said DPW crews will operate continuously throughout the weekend but clearing all roads may take time. He asked residents to avoid travel if possible.
Gale force winds are also in the Sound Shore forecast. City officials said homeowners should contact Con Edison at 1-800-75-CONED or www.coned.com in the event of a power outage. Downed trees and power lines should be reported to the New Rochelle Police at 914-654-2300.
After the storm, homeowners are reminded to clear sidewalks and fire hydrants in front of their property. When digging out cars, snow should never be thrown back into the street.
