Press release from the Town of Northborough: January 28, 2022 - 8:07am Northborough Water Meter Transmitter Upgrade Project https://northboroughmeterupgrade.as.me/schedule.php In 2015 – 2016 the Northborough Public Works replaced all aging mechanical water meters with new ultrasonic meters with cellular transmitters which greatly increased their accuracy and expanded reporting capabilities. The industry standard cellular transmitters used at that time communicated over the 3G cellular network. Wireless cellular network carriers (Verizon, AT&T, T Mobile, etc.) announced earlier this year that they will "sunset" support of the 3G network on December 31, 2022.  This announcement requires the Town to upgrade all current 3G cellular transmitters to new 5G cellular transmitters. This will require entrance into each customer location. This work will be conducted by Town personnel following all current Covid-19 protocols and will take approximately 15-minutes to complete. We understand this is an inconvenience to you our customer.
