NEW MILFORD, CT — Ahead of this weekend's snowstorm, the town of New Milford has announced a street parking ban.
A Snow Emergency and Parking Ban will be in effect starting at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, New Milford Mayor Pete Bass said, though he didn't specify an end date or time.
Parking on downtown streets will be prohibited, Bass said on Facebook, and residents can park their cars in the Town Municipal parking lot (at the town hall's lower level), the Senior Center parking lot and the Patriot's Way parking lot.
"Please make sure if you park on the street at your residence to move your car to the driveway or up on the lawn so that the plow drivers can properly plow the roads," Bass said.
To prepare for the storm, this morning two department of public works trucks pre-treated hills and intersections, Bass said.
Additionally, the town's pothole machine was filling in paved roads throughout New Milford, while crews were out "addressing potholes on Town dirt roads," Bass said.
Litchfield County, which includes New Milford, is expected to get 5 to 10 inches of snow on Saturday. Wind speeds will reach up to 40 mph, which will cause the snow to blow and drift.
