Description
GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich Police Officers Jeff Franco and Frank Solomon each received commendations this week for their work in reducing car thefts around town.
Franco and Solomon were given the commendations from Greenwich Police Chief James Heavey. In a Facebook post, the department said the officers, through "leadership, excellent skills and ability," have helped lower car thefts in Greenwich by 30 percent in 2021
"They did an excellent job but we still need your assistance," the GPD said in a Facebook post. "All the vehicles stolen in 2021 had the keys left inside with the doors unlocked. Auto theft is a preventable crime."
Recently, the GPD said there has been a slight uptick in car thefts in the central Greenwich business district. Thieves are targeting cars that are left unlocked with the keys inside while owners are shopping or dining.
