Description

Press release from the City of Knoxville - Blog: January 28, 2022 In September, the City's first all-electric buses joined Knoxville Area Transit's fleet. Look for big environmental returns, for years to come, on that historic investment. Each of KAT's 12 electric buses will help Knoxville avoid using about 13,520 gallons of diesel fuel and avoid emitting about 304,392 pounds of greenhouse gases in the city each year. To appreciate the ecological benefits, multiply those numbers by 18, because 6 more all-electric buses are on order to add to the first 12. When the 18 buses are all in operation, they'll collectively avoid using 243,360 gallons of diesel fuel and avoid emitting 5.5 million pounds of greenhouse gases. If you're a regular KAT rider, chances are good that you've been on one of the new electric buses by now. Bus operators have been testing them out across the city. They will be a regular fixture on Route 17 - Sutherland starting in March, with other routes soon to follow.
