A local defense attorney plans to run for Vanderburgh County Prosecutor.
Jon A. Schaefer will file for the May 3rd primary on Monday.
He's been with the Vanderburgh County Public Defender's Agency for more than 12 years, and currently serves as Chief Counsel.
In a release, Schaefer says he's represented nearly two thousand individuals and tried many trials in the Vanderburgh County courts.
His announcement comes amid uncertainty over whether incumbent prosecutor Nick Hermann will seek a fourth term.
In August, the county reached a settlement in a federal lawsuit against Hermann by a former employee claiming sexual harassment.
At least one Republican challenger has emerged, Evansville native Diana Moers.
The filing deadline for the primary is noon, February 4th.
