The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced that tax season will start on Monday, January 24, 2022. The due date for 2021 federal income tax returns is Monday, April 18, 2022, for most individual taxpayers.
The Library will receive a limited amount of printed federal forms 1040 and 1040-SR along with the accompanying instructions. The IRS directs citizens to obtain additional copies of instruction booklets and other forms through:
IRS.gov/Forms - to view and download
IRS.gov/orderforms - to order tax products to be delivered by mail
1-800-829-3676 - to order tax products to be delivered by mail
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides in-person and remote tax assistance free of charge to anyone, with a special focus on taxpayers who are 50 or older or who have low to moderate income. Tax-Aide volunteers are located nationwide, and are trained and IRS-certified every year to make sure they know about and understand the latest changes and additions to the tax code. Tax help is provided in safe environments using a variety of methods based on a number of factors, including where you are located, COVID-19 spread, and volunteer availability. Read more
