Press release from the City of Long Beach: 1/28/2022 ▼ FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEPress Release # 12822-2 Subject: City to Begin Offering New COVID-19 Testing Clinics at Long Beach Civic Center Contact: Long Beach, CA – In an effort to meet the continued demand for accessible testing amid the Omicron variant surge, beginning the week of Monday, Jan. 31, the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) will open two new weekly non-appointment COVID-19 testing clinics at the Long Beach Civic Center and Long Beach City College, Pacific Coast Campus (PCC). "The new Civic Center testing location will provide more accessible testing opportunities for our downtown residents and businesses," said Mayor Robert Garcia. "By expanding testing opportunities while continuing to offer vaccines nearly every day, we can defeat the Omicron surge." Walk-up clinics at the Civic Center will be offered weekdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. PCC will offer walk-up clinics Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. These testing clinics are available for those who are symptomatic or asymptomatic seeking to be tested and will be offered in addition to the testing clinics already offered by the Health Department. "The Health Department has conducted about 850,000 COVID-19 tests since the start of the pandemic and nearly 10,000 in one day," said Health Department Director Kelly Colopy. "We remain committed to making sure everyone who needs a test in Long Beach can get one." Beginning Jan. 31, the weekly COVID-19 testing schedule will be as follows: Civic Center (411 W. The Health Department continues to urge everyone to get fully vaccinated and boosted if eligible. Vaccines are safe and effective in preventing COVID-19 cases, as well as preventing hospitalization, serious illness or death among breakthrough cases of the virus. From Sept. 1, 2021, through Jan. 24, 2022, 94% of hospitalizations and 97% of COVID-19 related deaths were among those who were unvaccinated or not up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccinations.
