Portland Police Release Name Of Man Killed By Deputy On I-205

PORTLAND, OR —Portland Police say that the man killed on I-205 earlier this week after leading Clackamas County Sherff's deputies on a chase was a domestic violence suspect who was known to carry a gun and wear body armor. They say that 32-year-old Wesley Chance was shot and killed by a deputy as he ran into traffic while carrying a gun. Officials say that the incident started late Wednesday night when deputies were called to a home because Chance had shown up on the property of someone. As the deputies pulled up, they saw Chance drive away. They say that deputies tried to stop him, he sped away. Chance then led them on a chase that went on to I-205. A deputy reported that as he followed, Chance pointed a gun out the window at him. The deputy alerted Portland Police as the chase continued into city limits. Soon after, Chance's green Subaru Outback crashed as it neared the Market Street exit. The deputy told investigators that he saw Chance jump the median, gun in hand, and start confronting drivers. That's when the deputy shot him. Other than Chance, there were no injuries. While the chase started in Clackamas County and involved one of their deputies, since the shooting happened in Portland, Portland Police are conducting the investigation with the assistance of the Multnomah County District Attorney and the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
