Press release from Cambridge Public Schools: December 6, 2020 View translations of message below: Amharic | Spanish Dear CPS community, "I am writing with an important COVID-19 update. Because COVID-19 cases in Cambridge have increased, and we have surpassed the thresholds we have set in partnership with our scientific advisors, CPS will make a temporary shift to remote learning for all students beginning on Thursday, December 10. Our shift to all remote learning will continue for at least 1 week at least through December 16. In-person learning will resume when two or more metrics remain below threshold for 7 consecutive days. Reopening decisions based on the metrics will be made in consultation with the Cambridge Public Health Department. Schedule for Temporary Shift to Remote Learning: Thursday, December 10 - December 16 Monday, December 7 and Tuesday, December 8 In-person learning continues as scheduled. – Principals and schools will share additional information regarding remote schedules. – OSS families will also receive a call from their case managers. Wednesday, December 9 Regular fully remote learning day Thursday, December 10 Shift to fully remote learning begins – School buildings, including central offices, will be closed to students, but will remain open for staff and for those who need to pick up supplies. – Remote lunch pickups will continue at 12PM at each school. Families are welcome to pick up lunch at any school building. Continued Planning We continue to plan for improvements to learning experiences, including potential expansion of in-person learning that will allow us to welcome more students in person when the public health situation allows. We will continue with the upcoming family listening sessions; student, family, and staff surveys, and staff discussions to refine plans for the second semester. The public health situation is concerning, and I recognize it can be a scary time for all of us. Please let us know if you have any questions." Sincerely, Kenneth N. Salim, Ed.D Superintendent This press release was produced by Cambridge Public Schools. The views expressed are the author's own.
