House Committee Subpoenas 2 MI Republican Fake Electors

MICHIGAN — Two state Republicans who tried to award the state's Electoral College votes to former President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election were subpoenaed by the U.S. House committee investigating the U.S. Capitol insurrection, according to a news release from Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson, the Democratic chairman of the panel. The committee subpoenaed state Republicans Kathy Berden and Mayra Rodriguez, who officials said were two joined 14 other state electors that signed a certificate deeming themselves as the state's delegates to the Electoral College. "We believe the individuals we have subpoenaed today have information about how these so-called alternate electors met and who was behind that scheme." Thompson said. "We encourage them to cooperate with the Select Committee's investigation to get answers about January 6th for the American people and help ensure nothing like that day ever happens again." The committee subpoenaed a total of 14 individuals from seven states, including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, New Mexico, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. President Joe Biden won all seven states, including Michigan by more than 154,000 votes. The two state representatives were summoned by the House's investigation shorty after Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson sent a letter to the committee containing "additional" information about the 2020 election. "As more information has surfaced about the attempts to thwart the will of Michigan's 5.5 million voters, we have been able to connect the dots between activities that occurred here in Michigan and at the national level to overturn what was the most secure election in our state's history," Benson said. "As the efforts to overturn the election ultimately led to the Jan. 6 attack on the United States Capitol, it is my firm belief that all Americans have a patriotic duty to nation and our democracy to support the Committee in their work."
