Students (ages 12 to 18) will learn how to apply an elastic waistband in this two-part Saturday class Two-part class Saturday, November 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Ages: 12 to 18 Skill level: Early Intermediate Prerequisite skills: Mastery of home sewing machine; understanding of seam allowance and measurement; ability to cut accurately. Would you like to progress your garment construction skills by learning how to apply an elastic waistband? This two-session class will give students an introduction to the process of creating an elastic waistband. Students will bring to class a pattern of their choice, using their own choice of fabric to create a garment that they will be able to take home at the end of the class. Comfort with using a home sewing machine, measurement, and cutting is required. Students should come to class prepared with their waist/hip measurements. Only 5 places! Students will work on conventional and/or industrial straight stitch machines. A shopping list will be sent to students ahead of time. Students will provide their own fabric and elastic for this class. Please note, a guardian will need to come into the Academy on the first day of class to review and sign the following required forms: Participant Agreement, Drop-off Consent, and Emergency Contact forms. A Photo Consent form is not required, but it is greatly appreciated. Masks will be required for the duration of class. Vision: Rightfully Sewn will lay a path to a contemporary version of Kansas City’s 20th-century golden era of garment design and manufacturing.  Mission: Rightfully Sewn will provide seamstress training for at-risk women so they can thrive in a specialized workforce that will reestablish Kansas City as an epicenter of garment manufacturing, while at the same time, propel Kansas City fashion designers to market so they can supply the burgeoning demand for affordable, high-quality, American-produced garments.
