Description

Press release from the Lexington Recreation & Community Programs: January 20, 2022 The Lexington Recreation and Community Programs Department wants to remind all community members, visitors, and animals that the open bodies of water in town, including the Old Reservoir are closed during the winter months. Community members will often enjoy the various open bodies of water for skating or ice fishing at their own risk. As the weather and temperatures change, so does the thickness of the ice when frozen. If there is any question if the ice is frozen enough, please consider refraining from use for your own safety. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has provided helpful tips on safety and ice strength. This is good information on what to look for when looking to venture out onto the ice. Some highlighted information to keep in mind if you are planning to go out on the ice: Make sure to let someone know where you are going and when you plan to be back It is recommended to go with at least one other person in case of emergency Make sure to have a cell phone in case of emergency If the ice is less than 2" thick, you should stay off Thanks for your cooperation in helping to maintain everyone's safety!
