MILWAUKEE, WI—A Milwaukee police officer was shot several times near 21st Street and St. Paul Avenue on Thursday night, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report and Milwaukee Alderman Bob Donovan. "Another Milwaukee officer shot this evening, this time near 21st & St. Paul Avenue—Kathy and I are praying for this hero's survival and for their family," Donovan said. This is the third police shooting in two weeks in Milwaukee. Christian Almonte, a 26-year-old Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputy, was released from Froedtert Hospital on Thursday. Almonte was shot in the arms and torso on Wednesday, Milwaukee County Sheriff Earnell Lucas said at a news conference. The man who shot the deputy sheriff during a traffic stop and subsequent foot chase early died of a self-inflicted gunshot, police said. The shooting followed a 2 a.m. traffic stop, during which a car's driver and passenger both got out of the vehicle and ran away. The driver was arrested near the on-ramp to Interstate 94 by S. 68th Street, but the sheriff's office said the passenger pulled out a gun and shot the deputy who was chasing him as they reached the 6300 block of W. Dixon Street. An alert system telling people near S. 64th Street and W. Dixon Street to shelter in place was sent to residents' phones across Milwaukee County and in Waukesha, according to numerous social media posts. The shelter in place order was lifted at around 11:30 a.m. On Jan. 13 an off-duty Milwaukee police detective was shot while trying to stop a robbery in Milwaukee's Third Ward neighborhood, Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said.
