3 Schools Going Virtual For 10 Days In Silver Spring

SILVER SPRING, MD — Three Silver Spring schools are transitioning to remote learning for 10 days, Montgomery County Public Schools said Thursday night. One school in Rockville is also shifting. "In the interest of the overall school community's health and safety, these schools will participate in a period of virtual learning from Jan. 31 through Feb. 9," the district said in an announcement. "They will return to in-person learning on Thursday, Feb. 10." The three schools are: Harmony Hills ESLoiederman MSPine Crest ES The district is offering "Equity Hubs" for students in kindergarten through fifth grade whose schools have switched to virtual learning. "Virtual learning may pose a challenge for families whose children need a safe place to learn while their parents work; cannot access virtual learning from home or who need a more structured learning environment," the district said in a news release. "The Black and Brown Coalition and The Children's Opportunity Fund have partnered with childcare providers to establish Equity Hubs as a solution." MCPS said interested parents should contact their child's school or school counselor. Sixteen schools were sent to virtual learning this month and are scheduled to return in person on Monday, including Briggs Chaney Middle School, Glenallan Elementary School and Sargent Shriver Elementary School in Silver Spring.
