Press release from the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce: January 24, 2022 Town Hall Zoom on Free VITA Tax Preparation Assistance and Financial Empowerment Monday, January 31, 7:00-8:00 PM Panelists from Charleston Urban League, Origin SC, Increasing Hope, United Bank, and Pinnacle Financial will participate in the Town Hall with the hope of spreading the word about the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program through which eligible individuals can have their taxes prepared for FREE by trained volunteers. With the start of the year comes the start of tax season, and the City of Charleston is teaming up with experts on Tax Preparation Assistance and Financial Empowerment to host a Financial Empowerment Town Hall Zoom on Monday, January 31, 7:00-8:00 PM. This important event will provide information on FREE Tax Preparation Assistance available to eligible residents, and how they can get the most from their tax return. Every year, too many eligible residents pay to have their taxes prepared when they can do so for free through the VITA Program. Many others fall victim to predatory lenders, and do not get what they deserve from their tax filing.
