Good morning, people of Charleston! Nicole Fallon-Peek here with today's Charleston Daily. First, today's weather: Clearing, breezy and chilly. High: 43 Low: 25. Here are the top three stories in Charleston today: The City of Charleston is hosting a Financial Empowerment Town Hall on Monday night from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The virtual event, held in partnership with area tax preparation and financial literacy experts, will educate residents about their options for preparing their taxes. As per the city, many "residents who are eligible to have their taxes prepared for free through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) grant program provided by the Internal Revenue Service waste money paying for tax preparation," with some even falling victim to predatory lending practices. Attendees can enjoy fresh local produce, craft and food vendors, live music, and kid-friendly activities. The shortage of affordable housing has reportedly affected other aspects of county life, including workforce availability and traffic patterns. The council has partnered with the Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization Department to develop an Affordable Housing Plan that will best tackle this pressing issue.
