The City of Evanston will celebrate the opening of a new Tesla Supercharger Station recently installed on the second level of the Maple Avenue Parking Garage with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday, January 28 at 11 a.m. Mayor Daniel Biss, City staff and multiple City Council members will be in attendance.
Through a collaboration with Tesla, this 12-port electric vehicle charging station is the first "Supercharger" in Evanston, supporting the City's commitment to sustainability through sustainable infrastructure. A Tesla Supercharger uses 480-volt direct current fast-charging technology with the ability to add up to 200 miles of range in 15 minutes.
This $350,000 infrastructure was fully funded by Tesla. As a result, all charging fees are assessed and collected by Tesla.
After analyzing usage rates in Evanston, Tesla determined the Maple Avenue Parking Garage for the station's location. Parking garage rates as assessed by the City of Evanston apply when charging vehicles. The Supercharger is accessible 24-hours daily while the garage is open.
The Maple Avenue Garage is located at 1800 Maple Ave., in Evanston. In addition to the new Tesla Supercharger there are two other electric vehicle charging stations on the first floor of the garage for other electric vehicles.
