Description

I run Zoological Rescue and Education Coalition with my co-founder (quite a few of you donated coolers to us last time I posted!) and we are already attempting to plan to expand due to the kind of animals we take on and will be able to take on if we pull off land and a facility. ZOO REC specializes in advanced exotic animals, while we also do common pet exotics, wildlife (we also need to expand in order to start offering birds of prey rehabilitation), and certain domestic cases. We have big plans, great foundation and so much in the works. What we are lacking is an animal friendly facility and land in North Raleigh. However, beggars can’t be choosers, and we are willing to take a shot at almost anything in Wake County. I know how highly unlikely it is going to be to find what we are looking for, if not impossible. We will of course continue to rescue and rehabilitate out of our homes but we could truly move mountains with a facility/land. Asking to have it donated or rent for free, at least until we can afford to pay for rent though, we already know sounds awful and outrageous to anyone we talk to. But for example, I’m sure everyone has seen the posts about the wolf dogs that are left from the Orange County case and they cannot find placement and will be euthanized. If we can find adequate land and facility, we can be of serious help in situations like this. Of course there is licensing with USDA and State processing to go through once we find a location, but that is what our rescue handles already, what our required knowledge is, and we will have that all done for the location. We know this is going to be an uphill battle and after finding a location there is more to be done, but we will finally have a place to start offering what this area of North Carolina badly needs. I’m almost embarrassed to be making this post, but they say if you don’t ask, the answer is always no. We want to bring and offer (rescue, assistance, programs, education, and much more) so much to Wake County and surrounding and we will not stop until we do, so if anyone has any advice or guidance it would be so welcomed! www.zoo-rec.org
