Tanya presents a monologic stream of consciousness that delves into her introspective life narrative starting as a child and weaves in and out of time in flashbacks and fast forwards; highlighting setbacks, relationships and pivotal moments in her life that motivate her to dream, create, sing and perform as a woman. A glimpse into the evolution of her soul progression through musical expression and vulnerability. The music is hand selected and/or written by Tanya Reed and collaborators, featuring popular black women artists of the 20th century such as: Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Erykah Badu, her mentor Dr. Betty Carter and more. This music serves as the glue to the monologues; allowing space for audience interpretation. From classic swing music of the 1920’s, burgeoning neo soul music of the late 1990s and her very own contemporary original compositions, Tanya covers a musical repertoire that spans over a century with the versatility of her voice. With her roots in jazz and thirst for lyric and melodic composition, Tanya laces some of her favorite music selections in and out of a stream of consciousness through monologue. Tanya’s desire to focus on her core inclination to create music in the now, is dependent upon her ability to release her past through this narrative musical performance in order to make space for new music and collaborations.
