DEDHAM, MA — January is "Adopt a Rescue Bird" month and the Animal Rescue League's Dedham adoption center is letting some of their feathery friends soak up the limelight in an effort to find them forever homes. This week, the center introduced Gus the Macaw to it's Facebook page. Gus is 31-years-old and been through a lot of stress. He's missing most of his chest and some back feathers after he plucked them out from the stress of his last home. ARL officials believe Gus suffered from malnutrition for 30 years and developed the stress-plucking habit. The center is looking for Gus' forever home, preferably someone experienced in taking care of birds who can help him through some basic bird behavior training. The center added that a pellet-based diet with daily supplements could start him off on a healthy track for a long and happy life. "Gus has a lot of potential and a lot of love to give," the center wrote on Facebook. Macaws can live to be between 50 and 60-years-old when living in captivity. With the right home, the center is hopeful he'll see and enjoy another 30 years.
