Melrose Woman Injured By Home Invader With Knife: Police

MELROSE, MA — Police are reminding residents to lock their homes and vehicles after what they said was a home invasion where a 19-year-old woman suffered a knife wound to the neck. The suspect in the home invasion, who authorities are still trying to identify, is also suspected in a number of other break-in attempts and two car thefts from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Chief Michael Lyle said police were called to a Lynde Street home around 2:50 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a home invasion. Police said a man broke into the home and demanded items from a woman. A physical confrontation ensued and the woman suffered the knife wound. She was was treated for injuries at the hospital. Police said there were also attempted home and car break-ins in addition to two vehicle thefts, including one in which the keyfob was left in the vehicle. The break-in attempts that were unsuccessful all had locked doors. "I cannot stress enough how significant a step the simple act of locking your home and vehicle doors can be in preventing you from becoming a victim of crime," Lyle said. "I urge all residents to remember to lock their homes and vehicles." Police are investigating and asking anyone with information to call 781-665-1212.
