SPRING VALLEY, NY — A free information session on services and resources for immigrant families and a legal clinic offering application assistance called Temporary Protected Status, Know Your Rights Training will be held Feb. 11. In partnership with the New York State Liberty Defense Project, Catholic Charities is hosting the event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Saint Joseph's Church at 245 North Main St. Schedule an appointment by calling 845-288-2662; walk-ins will not be allowed due to COVID-19 restrictions. Attendees seeking assistance with applications for Temporary Protected Status should bring proof of identity and nationality such as a Passport, National Identity Card or a Certified Birth Certificate along with proof of the date of entry into the United States such as an entry stamp, I-94, or notice to appear. To prove continuous residence in the United States, admissible documents include lease agreements, utility bills, medical and school enrollments records, and bank statements. Notarized letters from a church, roommate, or coworker are acceptable, as are geo-tagged photographs and receipts or copies of transactions during qualifying months. If an applicant was ever arrested, charged, or convicted for a criminal offense, a copy of court records is required. If a document is submitted in a foreign language, it should include a full English translation along with a certification from the translator verifying that the translation is complete and accurate and that the translator is competent to translate from the foreign language into English. Unless original documents are specifically requested, copies of the documents are acceptable. Two passport-style photos and a money order or check for the application filing fee must be made out to US Department of Homeland Security. Fees range from $50 to $410.
