GREENDALE, WI — Can you cook a great steak? Are you petrified when someone orders a steak the "wrong" way at a restaurant? This upcoming event slated for Greendale in February may be your ticket to secure your steak's status across the whole community.
The Steak Cookoff Association has scheduled a cookoff competition to take place on Greendale's Broad Street on Feb. 26, according to the organization's website. Barbecue Supply Company, located at 5668 Broad Street, is listed as the event site.
The event will bring over 30 teams to grill and smoke steaks and appetizers that will then be put up for judgment on Broad Street, according to an event posted on Facebook by local Greendale organizations. First place for each steak takes home $1000 and a ticket to compete in the World Steak Cookoff Championship in Fort Worth, Texas, in March, the Facebook event posting reads.
People can register to participate in the event online. Entry fees vary from $50 dollars for just an appetizer, to $370 for two steaks and an appetizer. The steaks will be provided by Rays Butcher Shop, according to the event post.
Besides the possible cloud of steak smells across downtown Greendale, onlookers to the event will be able to participate in activities at nearby businesses, the Facebook event post added. A craft beer tent and food vendors will also be on-site, the post continued.
The Steak Cookoff Association competition happens nationwide, globally, even. The competition sees who can trim, season and cook the best steak.
