Description

DEDHAM, MA — Dedham police hit the streets in plain clothes on Wednesday to see how safe Dedham roads are for pedestrians. Officers conducted a "crosswalk decoy" operation on several streets in town. The operation involves an officer in plain clothes trying to use a crosswalk while cars pass. The point of the operation is to find drivers who violate traffic rules and don't yield to the pedestrian. The operation was funded by a pedestrian safety grant from the Executive Office of Public Safety. Fines for passing a pedestrian who has the right of way can be as much as $200. Officers conducted "Crosswalk Decoy" operations at multiple crosswalks today under a Pedestrian Safety Grant awarded by @EOPSS. M.G.L. required vehicle drivers to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks: https://t.co/GbEbd6NB2n pic.twitter.com/fIWxEZgAe0— Dedham Police Dept (@DedhamPD) July 8, 2020
