Description
DARIEN, CT — The manslaughter case in Anguilla against Darien resident Scott Hapgood will continue after an inquiry in the island country reportedly found enough evidence to proceed, according to the Connecticut Post.
Hapgood is accused of killing hotel worker Kenny Mitchel at the Malliouhana resort during an April 2019 altercation in Hapgood's room. Mitchel showed up unannounced to fix a sink, and then pulled a knife and demanded money, Hapgood claims.
The two fought, and Mitchel was killed. Hapgood has claimed he acted in self-defense to protect himself and his family from Mitchel, who attacked them.
After initially returning to the island during the investigation, Hapgood stopped going back to Anguilla out of fear for his safety, and concerns over whether he would receive fair treatment. He is considered to be a fugitive, though there have been no attempts to extradite him.
