Baltimore Firefighter Injured In Deadly Fire Leaves Hospital

BALTIMORE, MD — A Baltimore firefighter injured while battling a vacant row house fire in southwest Baltimore will continue his recovery at home. According to the Baltimore Fire Department, John McMaster was released from the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center on Thursday. McMaster was injured in Monday's vacant rowhome fire on Stricker Street after the building collapsed on him and three other firefighters. McMaster was rushed to the hospital and placed on life support in the intensive care unit, Dr. Thomas Scalea, physician in chief at the shock trauma center, said at the time. Two days after the fire, Baltimore Firefighters IAFF Local 734 announced that McMaster was finally awake and talking. "He is still receiving care for his injuries, but appears to be on a good path. Our peer support team is by his side," the union said Wednesday. "He continues down his road to recovery. He and his family extend their sincere thanks to everyone." Three other firefighters died in the fire after the building's collapse.
