ST. CHARLES, IL — No one was injured when a blaze broke out in a downtown St. Charles building Tuesday evening.
Firefighters faced hazardous conditions as they fought the fire, which broke out at about 7:47 p.m. at 215 W. Main St., according to a news release from the St. Charles Fire Department. Frigid temperatures lead to fire crews dealing with equipment that froze and slippery surfaces while at the scene of the blaze.
Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby businesses and residences, but nearby locations did sustain smoke damage. The fire was brought under control in about 80 minutes after fire crew arrived at the scene, according to fire officials.
No one was injured and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
