PITTSBURGH, PA —A Brashear High School senior has been charged with aggravated assault after a recent fight that resulted in another student's hospitalization. Quincy Garland, 18, allegedly slammed the 17-year-old victim onto the floor and kicked him five times in the head while he was unconscious, according to the criminal complaint. Video of the altercation that circulated on social media showed one student slamming another male student's head onto the floor and then stomping on the victim's head. School security broke up the fight. The victim suffered a concussion and spent several days recovering from his injuries at UPMC Children's Hospital. Brashear principal Kimberly Safran last week was placed on non-disciplinary paid administrative leave while the district reviews the incident, which the criminal complaint says was the fourth physical altercation between the two students this year. The fight and other recent violence in the Pittsburgh Public Schools prompted parent protests at a school board meeting last week. Earlier this month, an Oliver Citywide Academy student was shot and killed outside the school as classes were being dismissed for the day.
