Families and students attended a fair over the weekend near downtown Los Angeles at Camino Nuevo Charter Academy, Castellanos Campus to learn about free charter public school options in their communities. The fair was hosted by the L.A. Coalition for Excellent Public Schools (LACFEPS), a nonprofit organization comprised of ten successful charter public school networks including: Alliance College-Ready Public Schools, Equitas Academy,KIPP SoCal, Bright Star Schools, STEM Preparatory Schools, Magnolia Public Schools, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy, Green Dot Public Schools, Ednovate and Aspire Public Schools. The event showcased high quality programs available to all students in Grades TK-12. Families who attended learned about each school, enjoyed DJ sounds and fun activities, and walked away with raffle prizes such as scooters and backpacks filled with school supplies. "The fair offered families an opportunity to interact with staff from various charter public schools and ask questions about programs that might be a good fit for their children – all in a fun environment," said Angelica Solis-Montero, executive director for LACFEPS. "It's important for families to know about the many successful school options they can access in their neighborhoods," added Solis-Montero. A second fair will be held next Saturday, January 29, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Ednovate East College Prep, a charter public high school in East Los Angeles. That event will take place at 3825 N. Mission Road, Los Angeles, CA 90031. Fair attendees who are ages 12+, must show COVID-19 vaccination proof, and be two weeks past the date of a second dose.
