Press release from the White Plains Public Library: January 26, 2022 Join us on Monday, February 24th at 4:00 p.m. to create some awesome collages with local artist Michael Albert. Albert's use of recycling in art is truly inspirational, and we're excited to look at the contents of our recycling bins in a new light during this program. We're putting together kits that include a canvas, scraps of construction paper, old magazines and various cardboard pieces. You're welcome to gather any art supplies or recycling from around the house to use during the program as well. This program is intended for grades 4 through 8. Supplies are limited so make sure to sign up on our calendar here. Suggested Reads: An Artist's America by Michael Albert Library Collection: Print Michael Albert combined his philosophy of recycling and pop art to create beautiful collages. One of his signature collections is Sir Real: an art concept that represents caricatures of the modern art movement of surrealism. Art Sparks by Marion Abrams and Hilary Emerson Lay Library Collection: Print Art Sparks has over fifty fun projects that you can do at home. Some of the nature art (such as the painted stick) can even be done outdoors. Other fun activities include felt monsters, fabric painting, and paper bead jewelry. The directions are clear and the illustrations are colorful. What is Contemporary Art? by Jacky and Suzy Klein Library Collection: Print This fun book guides children in learning about modern and contemporary art and artists. Little People, Big Dreams: Andy Warhol, by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara and illustrated by Timothy Hunt Library Collection: Print Little People, Big Dreams is a wonderful series that highlights the biography of activists, writers and artists. Andy Warhol is one of the most famous pop artists of our time. When Andy was a child he became sick; and to keep himself busy he began to look through magazines.
