BIRMINGHAM, AL — A Vestavia police officer admitted in a Jefferson County courtroom Thursday that he stole money and a watch from a suspect during an investigation three years ago. Sgt. Timothy Burns pleaded guilty Thursday to theft of property and use of public office for personal gain, according to an AL.com report. The theft occurred Nov. 8, 2018, during a drug search warrant at a loft on First Avenue North. Burns stole $15,200 in cash, a men's Rolex watch valued at $8,950 and a pocket knife. Burns had maintained his innocence up until Thursday's court appearance.
