OAK CREEK, WI — The Oak Creek-Franklin School District School Board heard more about a proposal to increase the hourly rates for summer school teachers at its meeting Monday. Every year, the Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District offers summer school classes to students. While the district tries to hire mainly OCFSD teachers for the task, the teachers conducting the courses haven't gotten an increase in 10 years, according to one administrator. The current rate is $24, Troy Hamblin, the district's current director of human resources, wrote in a report to the school board for Monday's meeting. A proposed rate increase would bring it to $26 per hour. "It's definitely an earned increase," Hamblin said in the meeting. In addition to increasing summer school teachers' wages, the summer school principal's flat-rate stipend was proposed to be increased to $3500 from $3200, Hamblin's board report reads. "Both increases will help keep OCFSD employees overseeing and teaching summer school," the report reads. "Our goal is to keep as many of our teachers teaching as possible," he added. The item was informational only, so no action was taken on the proposal at Tuesday's meeting.
