STAMFORD, CT — Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons and husband Art Linares are expected to welcome their third child on Wednesday, according to an update from the mayor's office. In anticipation of Simmons' absence, Board of Representatives President Jeffrey Curtis will serve as acting mayor until Simmons is able to resume her duties. The temporary shift of power is pursuant to Samford's charter. "As discussed, my husband Art and I will be welcoming our third child today and I will shortly be giving birth, which will render me temporarily unable to exercise the powers and duties of my office," Simmons said in a public communication Wednesday morning with Curtis. "Therefore, pursuant to Section C3-10-4 of the City Charter, I am notifying you that effective immediately, you shall serve as Acting Mayor until I inform you that I am able to resume the responsibilities of my office." The mayor's office will provide updates when Simmons is able to reassume her duties.
