New Framingham Council Committees Set After 2021 Election

FRAMINGHAM, MA — The word "subcommittee" might sound boring, but it's not. The Framingham City Council has eight subcommittees, each specializing in a different topic (or three). The subcommittees typically feature much longer discussions about civic issues compared to the main City Council that meets on Tuesdays. Every subcommittee has important work to do, but the Finance Subcommittee might be the most powerful. Each spring, the members go through the mayor's budget proposal line-by-line while interviewing department heads. The committee votes on different aspects of the budget, and those votes can serve as a guide to how the larger City Council will approve or disapprove of items in the budget. Last week, the City Council elected District 6 Councilor Philip Ottaviani as chair, charging him with assembling the subcommittee members for the next two years. The Council rearranges its leadership roles and subcommittees after each November election.
