TOMS RIVER, NJ — Electrical service has been restored in the Toms River area Wednesday, after more than 12,000 homes and businesses were without power because of a transmission issue, Jersey Central Power & Light said.
The outage, which started around 9 a.m., affected homes in the eastern portion of Toms River and in Seaside Heights and Seaside Park, according to the JCP&L outage map.
Chris Hoenig, a JCP&L spokesman, said the outage was caused by a problem in one of the high-voltage sub-transmission lines.
JCP&L crews had shift the electricity transmission around the faulty area to get customers back on line while repairs were made.
Crews were trying to determine what caused the problem, Hoenig said in a 10:15 a.m. phone call.
"Because it's a transmission issue, when power is restored everyone will come back at the same time," Hoenig said, as opposed to when they are repairing downed lines after a storm.
