Description

ARVADA, CO — Arvada is partnering with Bird Rides, a California-based company, to bring electric scooters to the city. This partnership comes as a component of a Shared Micromobility Pilot Program, which will allow bicycles, e-bicycles and e-scooters to be used in a one-mile radius around Regional Transportation District G-Line stations in Arvada, city officials said in a news release Tuesday. The program was initially approved in August after being recommended by the city's Transportation Committee, officials said. It is intended to help "with transit connectivity and mobility around the new RTD G-Line stations in Arvada." The scooters will be available through a mobile app that charges users a per minute rate, though the company is offering a 50 percent discount to some local nonprofit and community organizations, Pell Grant recipients, veterans, senior citizens and low-income riders through its Community Pricing Program, officials said. Bird Rides also gives free rides to healthcare and other emergency workers. Bird Rides' e-scooters can reach a speed of 15 miles per hour and are only available to people 18 and older, according to officials. They can be operated both in bike lanes and on roads. Though it is not clear exactly when Arvada will start seeing these e-scooters, city officials said they are coming soon.
