Description

Press release from the City of Austin: January 24, 2022 A new MetroRail station that will serve the Domain and the new UptownATX community broke ground on Jan. 18. The Broadmoor station, which is scheduled to open in early 2024 at 11501 Burnet Road, is one of two new Red Line stations on the way from Capital Metro. The other is the McKalla Station, which is in the design phase and will be located near Austin FC's Q2 Stadium. Capital Metro worked with public and private partners to plan the new station, including Charles Schwab, which has a 50-acre office campus nearby, Brandywine Realty Trust, which is developing the 66-acre mixed-use UptownATX project, and the city of Austin. Austin's Public Works Department (PWD) is working to facilitate connections around the new station for the planned Red Line Trail, envisioned as a 32-mile trail network that would follow Capital Metro's Red Line from Downtown Austin to Leander. Nearby, Austin is investing $45 million to $55 million in 2016 Mobility Bond funds on improvements along the Burnet Road corridor from MoPac to Koenig Lane, which are designed to improve the effectiveness of transit, reduce vehicular delay and create continuous ADA-compliant sidewalks and bicycle facilities along the corridor. The City is also investing in east-west connections along streets such as Kramer Lane and Gracy Farms Lane to upgrade bicycle facilities and pedestrian crossings. "We are grateful for the leadership and support of our City Council," said Gina Fiandaca, Austin's assistant city manager for mobility. "Transit is less about what it does and more about what it means for our community. Putting together a public-private partnership to really deliver meaningful transit that's transformative is just an amazing opportunity."
