CONCORD, NH — The deputy attorney general has been nominated by the president to become the next U.S. Attorney for New Hampshire. Jane Young was nominated by President Joe Biden on Wednesday to take over the federal prosecutorial role for the state. In a statement, the president said Young and five others were chosen "for their devotion to enforcing the law, their professionalism, their experience and credentials in this field, their dedication to pursuing equal justice for all, and their commitment to the independence of the Department of Justice." During that time, she has served in public protection, criminal justice, and the drug unit. Before coming to the attorney general's office, she was the assistant county attorney in Hillsborough County. Attorney General John Formella congratulated Young on her nomination calling her "one of a kind," irreplaceable, and an incredible prosecutor and public servant, too. "We at the Department of Justice greet today's news with mixed emotions," he said. "We have enjoyed a great partnership since I began my role as attorney general last April. I know I speak for all of my colleagues when I say that Jane will be greatly missed." Formella said Young was "more than worthy of this recognition and honor," and added she was "excited about this opportunity and ready to take this next step in her incredible career." He said the district will be "well served" with her as the attorney. Young attended Saint Anselm College in the mid-1980s and received her law degree from the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce Law School. In February 2021, all U.S. Attorneys offered their resignations. Some were placed in acting roles while nominations were made. After being nominated, U.S. Attorney candidates are vetted and confirmed by a vote of the U.S. Senate. Best Buddies Receive $20K Grant New York Life has awarded a $20,000 community impact grant to Best Buddies of New Hampshire. Best Buddies is a nonprofit that creates opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to build friendships and development mentoring with others. "We are grateful for New York Life's investment in our School Friendships, which will change many lives for the better," Sarra Dennehy Lynch, the state's director, said. "Without the support from New York Life, we wouldn't be able to expand our programs in our schools and the expansion of our programs is vital to the growth of the organization in New Hampshire." Kelly Dyer Rawlings, an agent of the company's New Hampshire general office, said the company also encourages its agents and employees to support the needs and priorities of their communities. "We are pleased that our partnership will have a long-lasting impact on Best Buddies and the population they serve," she added. For more info, visit the Best Buddies NH site.
