Description

FREMONT, CA — Fire broke out at a recycling facility Sunday afternoon, sending a plume of smoke into the air that could be seen from a distance. The facility is on Dixon Landing Road, on the border of Fremont, Milpitas and San Jose. Firefighters from all three cities responded. The fire started in a large debris pile and spread to nearby machinery. Once the machinery fire was extinguished, a front loader was used to separate the debris pile so the remainder of the fire could be put out. The private hydrant system at the facility had operating issues, hampering the fire fight. The facility is in the jurisdiction of the San Jose Fire Department, which is investigating the cause of the fire.
